Over the last couple of days, travelling many miles on the road has been the only thing on the agenda of our future wannabe stars.
Having spent most of the time on country roads, since French highways are très chèr, our friends finally arrived in the City of Light, Paris.
Want to find out more about 39 Days? Here's the who, what and why.
From Amsterdam to somewhere else in Holland – The boys decided that enough time had been spent in Amsterdam and once more they packed up their stuff, waved goodbye to their friendly host, Lily, and left the rainy city. Only to find more rain and a colder wind in a random field between Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
Since they had left Amsterdam later than expected, their car couldn’t make it much further than a few kilometres outside of the city before it was time to sleep. A spot to crash was found surprisingly quickly. It was pitch black and so it wasn’t really clear where they had built their tent.
The serenity of the countryside and the Dutch canals only became apparent the next morning. A weak sun made the morning dew glitter and the only sounds were ruminating cows – and the gentle buzz of the nearby water purification plant.
From somewhere in Holland to Rotterdam – A quick stopover in Rotterdam was next on the agenda. Instead of earning more money, they were given free fresh fish. Dinner was sorted at least!
From Holland to Paris – The boys travelled on towards Paris, finally leaving Holland behind them and moving ever closer to Morocco. With four, almost fully-grown, men plus luggage inside and a sofa on top of it, the car – as we've said already – isn’t the fastest.
Not only that, as you may or may not know, the motorway in France isn’t exactly cheap, so it was not an option for Hanno, Jamie, David and Max. Having to avoid the motorway leaves you with no alternative but the country roads. It took them a good eight hours to cover the distance between Holland and Paris.
It was worth every minute though. Paris is just breathtakingly beautiful and if you are forced to drive through the entire city in order to find a place to sleep, you get to see a lot of its beauty! Driving along the Seine, they found a guitarist, who was very helpful in pointing out the best places for wild camping in the middle of the city.
Somehow they ended up in a dodgy area underneath one of Paris’ many bridges and spent the night sleeping on the sofa on top of the Defender. As you can imagine, the start of the next day wasn’t exactly a fresh one…
