This week's album run-down sees the return of one of the biggest bands of the 80s, a comeback by one of the biggest bands of the 90s and the latest from a true rising star.
Laura Marling (seen here having what can only be described as a disappointing night out) plans to follow up her acclaimed 2008 debut – Alas I Cannot Swim – with a brand new album entitled I Speak Because I Can on March 22. Produced by Marling with Ethan Johns (Kings Of Leon, Ryan Adams) the 10-track album is the first of two full-length releases Marling has planned for 2010, with the next one due in September.
Depeche Mode were reunited with Alan Wilder after 16 years at a Teenage Cancer trust show at London's Royal Albert Hall. The band, who also took the opportunity to play some hidden gems from their catalogue at the show, had been in contact with Alan to see if he'd be into the idea, and unveiled him during the encore of Somebody. A download of the whole show, with proceeds going to the TCT, is available from www.depechemodelive.com
No Doubt are currently recording a new album after laying off for a few years so that Gwen Stefani could have a solo career. The band claim the new stuff is sounding very 80s, and hope to have some new material ready for later in 2010.
