The Red Bull Crashed Ice World Championship starts next Saturday and champion Martin Niefnecker cannot wait, so much so that he was in Munich a week early... to follow Alpine skiing great Ivica Kostelic down the piste!
Hi everyone,
After a very relaxing Christmas and New Year spent together with my family, I'm now focusing fully on the first Red Bull Crashed Ice event in Munich.
On New Year's Day, I watched the ski jumping at the Four Hills Tournament at Garmisch-Partenkirchen and, last week, a day after the parallel slalom in the Alpine Ski World Cup had taken place at Munich’s Olympiapark, I followed in the footsteps of the skiers and rode down the Olympiaberg with Andreas Maier. They iced over the slopes and constructed a course for us. It was so cool!
I probably wouldn't have beaten Ivica Kostelic... but I'm sure I'd have made the podium!
Tomorrow, I’ll return to Waidring, in Tyrol, together with some buddies who’ll also be taking part in the Munich contest. We’ll do some training on the new permanent ice cross downhill course that's been built there.
I can't wait. It is getting harder and harder to hold back my excitement! I think I have prepared myself well for the upcoming season, so I'm hopeful of doing well. I’m thrilled that the wait is almost over!
Martin
