Andrew Flintoff has today announced his retirement from all forms of professional cricket.
The incredible all-rounder and former England captain has suffered from injury setbacks since the Oval Test against Australia in August 2009 when he helped England regain the Ashes from Australia.
The reluctant decision to end his career in professional cricket came after consultations with medical advisors.
'I had no alternative' – Andrew Flintoff
"Having been told my body would no longer stand up to the rigours of cricket, I had no alternative" said Freddie. "I was told the problems I have been trying to overcome in rehab for the last year, following the latest of a series of operations, would not recover sufficiently to allow a comeback."
Flintoff will now take a break before deciding which future direction to take.
