DJ Flagrant is victorious at the Thre3style event in Melbourne Red Bull Content Pool

Melbourne’s own mixmaster DJ Flagrant served up a fiery cocktail of technical skills and epic track selection to take out first place in Red Bull Thre3style this weekend in his home city. Flagrant was one of eight of Melbourne’s finest DJs showcasing their skills in front of a packed house at favourite music venue, The Billboard.

The unique DJ contest had just one key rule – DJs had to rock the house by playing a selection of at least three genres or styles of music in their 15-minute sets. The innovative battle format rocked the party and showcased some of Melbourne’s best local talent, but it was DJ Flagrant who stepped up and delivered with his stage presence, song track domination and a special message for his peers on the night.

The best seats in the house were reserved for the judges including industry experts Johan Elgstrom from DMC records, M.A.F.I.A from Sneaker Freaker Magazine and Tim Myer from www.mydjspace.com. Flagrant took to the stage and completely blew the panel away. “Up until the last 15 minutes, it was DJ Dameza who was set to take it out but Flagrant was just too good”, said Elgstrom. Amongst the crowd also lending their support were the Yacht Club DJs Gareth Harrison and Guy Chappel-Lawrence.

Not only does Red Bull Thre3style give DJs a platform to get noticed, but as the winning competitor from the Melbourne qualifier, DJ Flagrant took home a cool $1,000 in cash and gained a place in the national final - to be held in Sydney on October 14th. The overall winner will then represent Australia in a trip to Vancouver to compete in the Red Bull Thre3Style World Final in December.

DJ Flagrant is looking forward to the national final where he will be pitted against Brisbane winner DJ Butcher, Sydney winner DJ Typhonic and reigning Australian Thre3style champion DJ Perplex who also hails from Melbourne. With the Adelaide and Perth qualifiers still to be decided, Flagrant is confident he can go all the way. “It was a great feeling to win Melbourne's Red Bull Thre3style competition, and an honour to compete with the other DJs - they all killed it too! I look forward to smashing my set at the final in Sydney!" said DJ Flagrant.

Red Bull Thre3Style continues Friday 2nd September at Apple Bar which will host the Adelaide qualifier. Catch headliner DJ Sampology and Adelaide’s best DJs vying for the top spot.
