Mortal Kombat Banned
I was stupidly excited for the release of the new Mortal Kombat game, even more so after seeing the gruesome trailer featuring some of their infamous fatalities. Unfortunately for ALL of Australia, the high level of violence and brutal graphics in the game are outside the lines of the MA15+ classification and it has been BANNED.

In the Classifications official document, it says "Kung Lao throws his metal hat into the ground and it spins like a buzz saw. He grabs his prone opponent by the ankles and drags their body through the saw, explicitly slicing them vertically in half. Copious blood spray is noted. Kung Lao then holds up both halves of the corpse as blood pours out." (Note, awesome!)

It goes on to say that "The game includes over 60 fatalities (some of which are noted above), which contain explicit depictions of dismemberment, decapitation, disembowelment, and other brutal forms of slaughter.” HELLO! Mortal Kombat has been around for 15 years – we know all this! That’s why we love it! Hopefully the next meeting, which takes place in March, will depict a better outcome. Fingers and opposable thumbs crossed!

3DinSane!
It’s only been out for a few days in Japan, but already the best selling game is the brain-teasing Professor Llayton and the Mask of Miracle. The release in Aus is March 31, so in anticipation I’m going to reveal MY 3 fave games!

1. Zelda: Ocarina of Time - this game was first released in 1996 on the N64 and it’s my favourite game of all time, hands down, without a hint of doubt. Now I get to play it not only on a handheld console BUT IN 3D!!

2. Super Street Fighter IV – just so I can play as Ryu and HADOUKEN just like I used to as a kid on the arcades.

3. Kid Icarus – it’s been 19 years since we’ve last seen this winged, bow wielding hero. I love my Greek mythology, so this one excites me!

Defender of the Universe Returns!
If you were a kid of the 80’s – then you’ve heard of the cartoon Voltron. If not – shame on you, and listen carefully. It’s about 5 lion robots who connect together to make up Voltron to take out the evils of space as the ‘Defender of the Universe’. It’s been released that THQ will be remaking it into a video game! It’s all to coincide with the revamp of the cartoon which will be on Nickelodeon. Apparently a movie is in the works too! It’s probably because the revival of Transformers was so successful. No complaints, I’ll be awaiting this one eagerly.

Until next time,
Maude.
