15-year-old Jeffrey Herlings picked up two impressive victories to claim his first ever MX2 GP win in front of his home crowd in Valkenswaard, Netherlands on Sunday.
The Dutch teenager claimed the first moto by 11.5 seconds before increasing his winning margin over second-placed Ken Roczen to 12.1 seconds in the next race to secure a memorable maiden win at only his third GP.
Herlings said: "It was an indescribable feeling. Just amazing. I had two good starts from not a very good starting position. But one GP is not the whole season so I am just going to try to be consistent and take it one race at a time."
Certainly all eyes will be on Herlings from here on in and the 50 points consolidates the up-and-coming star's third place in the championship standings behind KTM team-mate Marvin Musquin and Suzuki’s Ken Roczen.
While Herlings will savour the race, for Musquin it will bring back painful memories.
The reigning MX2 world champion suffered a major crash in qualifying on Saturday which affected the rest of his race.
"The problem was with my crash,” revealed Musquin. “I had no energy and I was very tired in my legs and my arms. In the first race I came eighth and in the second it was better, I was fifth and I came back to third, but I crashed two laps before the end and finished fifth."
