The freezing cold temperatures of winter in Europe and North America may be over – and good riddance, you may say – but spare a thought for the Red Bull Crashed Ice racers who are happiest when the temperature gauge is well below zero. What do they do during the summer?

German athlete, Martin Niefnecker (19) just came back from holidays where he did some wakeboarding. This summer he will continue his work as mechanic and three times a week he'll be playing in-line hockey. He also likes mountain biking in the beautiful mountains in Garmisch and, if he’s not there, you can find him in the gym. In-line hockey is also the pastime of choice for Swedish star Jasper Felder, who has a match this Sunday.

Canadian brothers Kyle (22) and Scott Croxall (20) are just as happy on the water when it’s not frozen. Scott is an accomplished waterskiier, who won the Show Skier of the year award in 2009. From June 21 you can find him working in and on the water in Muskoka in Ontario, and performing in waterskiing shows all over the Province this summer.

“I grew up on the water at my cottage with my family and watched the ski shows as a kid and wanted to be in them one day when I was old enough. It’s one of the best jobs out there,” he said. Scott is into barefooting, slalom skiing, ski jumping and pyramids. If you want a few pointers, he’s also an excellent teacher who can take you all the way from beginner to expert. “I love teaching the little kids how to ski.”

His brother, Kyle will be working as a firefighter from August and in the meantime he’ll be keeping in shape with weight training and extra curricular activities such as biking, and rollerblading. “I do miss Red Bull Crashed Ice and can’t wait for the new season to start.”
