Marathon runner Karl Meltzer recently accomplished something that no man before him has ever achieved. Lucky Numbers pays homage to the Human Express...

2,064...
Karl Meltzer crossed the finish line in St. Joseph, Missouri, this past weekend after completing a 40-day, 2,064-mile trek to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the historic Pony Express Trail. He even arrived a week ahead of schedule! Why did he do it? “I’ve run a lot of 100-mile marathons and this was an opportunity to challenge myself personally and professionally to do something no one else has ever done,” said Meltzer.

247,000...
The project began on September 15 in Sacramento, California, meaning Meltzer traversed the Sierra and Rocky Mountains, deserts and the Great Plains all on foot! Covering 50 miles a day, he burned 247,000 calories, which is the equivalent of 532 Big Macs!

143...
The number of Red Bull cans consumed! "It took a lot of preparation, including about 5-7,000 calories of food each day, and half a can of Red Bull every five miles to keep Karl at his pace,” revealed Meltzer’s trainer Ted Meyer.

440...
The number of hours of music listened to... Karl hasn't told us exactly what he was listening to but we imagine 'Born to Run' by Bruce Springsteen would figure somewhere on his playlist!

91,068...
The total height in feet Karl ascended during his journey across a great swath of the United States. On the final day alone, Meltzer ran for more than 100 miles, or four complete marathons!

7...
The number of pairs of shoes worn by Karl... but he didn't arrive just with a pair of very smelly socks... oh no! In homage to the postal carriers who rode this path before him, Karl hand-delivered a letter from the Mayor of Sacramento to the Deputy Mayor of St. Joseph. All in a day's work...
