Marc Márquez's bid for championship glory will begin from pole position after the Ajo Motorsport rider dominated qualifying ahead of the final race in the 125cc category of MotoGP.
The teenager took his 12th pole position of the season, with title rival Nico Terol, Brit Bradley Smith and team-mate Sandro Cortese following him onto the front row at Valencia.
Márquez leads championship rival Terol by 17 points going into the last race and finished the session 0.108s ahead of his challenger.
Dani Pedrosa's hopes of claiming the MotoGP World Championship were ended by Jorge Lorenzo and the Spaniard is still feeling his way back after his return following a broken arm.
Pedrosa, a five-time grand prix winner at Valencia, improved on his earlier practice sessions, finishing eighth in the 45-minute qualifying run, meaning a start on the third row alongside Honda team-mate Andrea Dovizioso.
Casey Stoner, who will be ending his association with Ducati to move to Honda next season, stormed to pole position for Sunday's race ahead of Lorenzo and the rapidly-improving Italian Marco Simoncelli, who booked a position on the front row for the first time.
