Having amassed an unassailable points lead in the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup at Vikersund, Norway, with three events to spare, Thomas Morgenstern can afford to relax at home in Austria for a while, as he tells us in his latest blog.

Hi guys!

I arrived back in Seeboden about an hour ago. Yesterday, we had a short celebration in the hotel and enjoyed a drink to our success.

It was a great day for me! I was very happy with both of my flights off the jump at Vikersund. Compared to Saturday, when I finished 12th, it was a very satisfying competition, and it’s good I was able to wait until just the next day to be able to clinch the overall World Cup with fifth place.

It’s the second time now that I’ve claimed this trophy. Not many athletes have done this before. Ten first places, seven seconds and one third rank are a great result for this season so far. I am very happy and grateful that it all went so well. Now I’m done with counting points and can fully focus on the World Championships in Oslo at the end of this month.

'Now I can take a deep breath…'

Now is the right time for me to send out a big thankyou to my trainers, my family, my partners and, of course, my amazing fans. You’ve pushed and motivated me all the way and made it all possible for me!

Now I can take a deep breath for a (hopefully) happy end to this season. I hope you will be on my side at the last competitions.

When I arrived in front of my house, my whole family and my fan club welcomed me, which was a nice surprise. We had some drinks together and a good time. But now I can’t wait to go to sleep. I will be here now for nine days and spend my time training and recharging my batteries.

Have a look at the pictures and the video from Sunday that I’ve uploaded to the gallery at thomasmorgenstern.com.

Speak to you soon!

Best

Thomas
