Marvin Musquin’s overall victory in the latest round of MX2 in Lierop clinched a second world championship title for KTM as Antonio Cairoli closes in on yet another record.

It is the first time manufacturers KTM Factory Racing have clinched both the MX1 and the MX2 title in the same season, with Musquin’s milestone following hot on the heels of MX1 champion Cairoli’s victory two weeks ago in Brazil.

'It was a great season and I rode well all year' – Marvin

Musquin finished second overall in the Netherlands but was already celebrating becoming the 2010 FIM MX2 world champion after the first heat, thanks partly to nearest rival Ken Roczen’s misfortune, the German pulling out of the opening moto due to a mechanical fault with his Suzuki.

"Two titles in two years, that's really great for me, and also for KTM and Red Bull. It was a great season and I rode well all year, although it wasn't so easy in the last GPs. The bike has been fantastic and now I go to Italy for the final round and of course I also want to win there," the new MX2 world champion said.

In MX1, Cairoli struggled a little bit on the Dutch sand but managed to clinch the overall victory. Cairoli added one more GP victory to his name and he is now just one away from matching motocross legend Eric Geboers’ total number of wins, 38.

The Italian had to start the first race from 27th position, after crashing with his compatriot David Philippaerts, and in the end had to be content with a second place behind team-mate Max Nagl. In the second heat, the Italian took the lead early and finished almost 30 seconds ahead of his team-mate, Rui Gonçalves, at the chequered flag.

Nagl was on the second step of the podium after winning the first heat and getting a fourth place in the second race. The German dominated the first moto from beginning to end and, although he could not repeat his performance in the second heat, he still finished fourth. Nagl is now just 10 points behind third in the championship Philippaerts.

Belgian Steve Ramon completed the rostrum in Lierop, while Gonçalves finished fourth, with a seventh and a second place.
