The greats of bodyboarding gathered at the Pipeline, Hawaii's famous break, for the official launch and opening ceremony of the first event on the 2011 IBA (International Bodyboarding Association) World Tour: the IBA Pipeline Pro.
Among the assembly were some of modern era’s finest competitors and true legends of the sport. Former IBA World Champions Uri Valadao (BRA), Jeff Hubbard (Haw), Ben Player (AUS) and Damien King (AUS) linked hands in ceremony with greats such as Mike Stewart (Haw), Steve ‘Bullet’ MacKenzie (AUS) and Ben Severson (Haw).
An official blessing was performed by local Kahu (priest), Dennis Sallas, who prayed for the safety, honour and integrity of all involved, and to ask the Hawaiian gods to protect those involved with the event.
A win at Pipeline is considered the Holy Grail for bodyboarding and the most prestigious title of the IBA tour which consists of eight international events.
All the action from every stop of the IBA World Tour will be broadcast LIVE on Red Bull Web TV and hosted by Hawaii's own Manny Vargas.
