Almost a third of the Maldives’ population gathered to witness Red Bull Air Race pilot Péter Besenyei's skills over the azure atoll in the Indian Ocean.
The ‘Flying Hungarian’ Péter Besenyei showed off his remarkable and instinctive skills in a special plane used for Red Bull Air Races at the Red Bull Air Show in the Maldives last weekend.

Péter, 55, who has been world champion eight times, previously won the freestyle world championship and the European freestyle championship and played an important role in creating the Red Bull Air Race competition.
100,000 people – equivalent to 30 per cent of the Maldives' population and a record number in the atoll's history – gathered on the shoreline of Male to watch the aerobatic airshow. Maldivians have never seen such an event before and the joy and enthusiasm on their faces was uplifting, and a popular local drumming band made sure to keep up the festive mood.
The airshow was a true success, Maldivians love Péter and they are waiting for his return!
