Andras Fox, Red Bull Music Academy participant

Name?
Andy Wilson aka Andras Fox.

Skills?
Producer, DJ, Radio Presenter.

Hometown?
Melbourne.

Which session of RBMA did you attend?
London, 2010.

What expectations did you have before participating in the Academy and how did that compare to the reality of actually participating?
I knew that the lecturers, other musicians and events would be well curated – but the environment was also tailored for music and romance. From the coffee through to the lamps and pot plants, there was a great deal of attention to detail. Most importantly I had the unexpected pleasure of making lasting friendships.

Is there a particular moment or event that stands out for you from your RBMA experience, and why?
The romance, the London fog, and that weird double-decker bus trip that we were taken on.

Which fellow participants stood out to you as obviously destined for bigger things, and have they actually gone on to great success since?
I'd rank success in terms of an ability to fully pursue your musical taste, no matter how weird, obscene or strange the final product is. I'd have to say Teri Gender Bender is on the right path for that.

What influence did attending the Academy have on your musical endeavours since?

It encouraged me to collaborate with people more regularly, and to relax about my "career" as a musician. All the people at the academy tended to share a similar attitude towards their musical output – keep doing what you're doing.

What projects do you currently have on the boil?
I've got a mini-LP due out May 1 (Andras Fox – Daydreaming), a collaborative EP with fellow participant Sui Zhen (Fox + Sui – Taboo EP) due out soon after that, and aspirations to make library music. And a box full of 4-track demos that need my attention…
