Sunday, 25 September saw the Melbourne leg of the Red Bull Music Academy World Tour take place at the iconic Venue The Forum, showcasing lectures, workshops, installations and interviews in the spirit of Red Bull Music Academy.
The event’s program brought together international and local musicians, producers, visual and new media artists. The intention was to collaborate and explore the notions of sonic space and the re-imagination of the zone where the audible and visual collide in a dazzling multimedia adventure within the world of beats and bass as part of the Red Bull Music Academy World Tour.
In the spirit of the Red Bull Music Academy, a producer-only lecture series was held throughout the day featuring interviews and workshops with international guests and local past academy attendees including Andreas Fox, Bryan Phillips and internationals Mike Huckaby, Tim Exile joined by Jon Dixon and DJ Skurge from Underground Resistance.
The evening’s schedule featured a stunning, never-before-seen interactive installation from award winning local extended media practitioners ENESS as well as performances by local artists JPS, Rambl, Mike Hunt and a very special performance by local funk outfit The Bamboos. The lineup also showcased international performances by Mike Huckaby (USA) and DEADBEAT (UK). Tim Exile (UK) delivered an interactive global online performance with participants from all around the world contributing and uploading sound samples live to the performance via timexile.tv’s “online stage”.
The Red Bull Music Academy World Tour’s Melbourne stop also saw a stellar performance from legendary Underground Resistance faction, Galaxy 2 Galaxy who performed live for the first time in Australia. The performance included U.R. classics “Hi-Tech Jazz”, and “Spirit of the Jaguar” alongside the world premiere performance of “Rey de Lux” from the forthcoming Mark Flash EP release.
As a voyage beyond the beat in 10 cities around the globe, the Red Bull Music Academy World Tour travels straight to the heart of today’s most crucial musical movements on a unique journey through sound around the globe in Berlin, Cape Town, Detroit, London, Melbourne, New York, Paris, Rome, São Paulo and Toronto with each event featuring signature concerts, workshops, art installations, studio sessions and parties in extraordinary locations.
