Ken Roczen and Marvin Musquin battled it out in the German Grand Prix on Sunday but it was the Frenchman who claimed victory a seventh win of 2010 consolidating his place at the top of the MX2 championship standings.

KTM Factory Racing MX2 rider Musquin took victory in the first moto after moving past team-mate Jeffrey Herlings, who started the day in pole, but in the second moto a real battle developed between Musquin and German crowd favourite Roczen.

Roczen claimed victory in the second race, with the dominant win in front of 35,000 home fans at the Teutschenthal circuit representing a pleasing return for the Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2 star.

It might have been even better for Roczen had he not been slowed down in the first heat due to a problem with his goggles...

He said: "I couldn't clear my goggles and had to dump them. It was impossible to get close to people and when I was behind backmarkers I had to slow down. After that I really wanted to do something special for all the fans that were cheering me and was really focused.

'It was an unbelievable feeling... the people seemed to go crazy' – Roczen

"I made a good start [to the second moto] and made some quick passes so I had a clear track. When I saw I had a good gap I turned the speed down a little bit and kept the rhythm."

Tony Cairoli was knocked out of his winning rhythm as the Italian could only register a disappointing fourth-placed finish in MX1.

KTM Factory Racing’s world champion got tangled up with Tanel Leok at the start of heat one and was forced to recover from the tail of the group to eventually take sixth.

In moto two the MX1 Championship leader rode strong to trouble eventual winner Ken De Dycker in the final laps. Cairoli had to settle for second, though, with Belgian De Dycker claiming the overall win to secure fourth place in the championship standings.

Max Nagl is one place further behind. The German raced despite the broken left collarbone he sustained in the last race in France and should certainly not be too upset with a sixth-placed finish overall.

Next weekend the series moves to Kegums, Latvia, and the following week it will be in Uddevalla, Sweden. Stay on track with www.motocross.com
