Trucker Girl Stephen Baccon/Red Bull Content Pool

Anyone who thought Sally Fitzgibbons was still a teenager got a fresh reminder she was anything but when she posed for the cover of last month’s STAB surfing and lifestyle magazine. And as of this Saturday, the little girl from Gerroa will be all grown up when she celebrates her 21st birthday in true style at a secret location in Sydney.

As many as 200 of the surfing industry and Aussie sport’s biggest names including Steph Gilmore and Tyler Wright will join Sally’s friends and family at the birthday bash. And despite the milestone, Sal has no plans of breaking her life-long, self-imposed ban, content with Red Bull Sugarfree just in case she has to drive someone home. Or, it could be because she’s hoping the old bloke with the beard and his red-nosed mate might notice – she wants a new bike for Christmas next week. Shhhh…

“I got home from Hawaii on Sunday and my bike has just fallen to bits – all rusty from the sea salt,” said Sal, who witnessed the monster swell on day one of Pipeline. She would have surfed it but she actually wanted to see out her 21st birthday – note Julian Wilson’s stitches and Mick Fanning’s withdrawal through injury.

“My car’s falling apart, too. Maybe a new car for my birthday and a bike for Christmas. Haha. Or the other way around. My Santa list is going to spill over to Christmas. I need to be able to get around somehow!”

Roxy has teamed up with Red Bull to throw the party – set to be the biggest event this summer.

“It’s gonna be a pretty big bash and I’m very excited,” said the world No.2. “I’ve been away on a heap of trips the last few months so I can’t wait to see everyone in the surfing world, from Red Bull and Roxy, and all my other friends in sports I made along the way and my friends from home.

“I think there’s going to be something crazy like a couple hundred - I didn’t realise I even knew that many people! So I’m pretty stoked everyone’s coming along.”

For a 20-year-old, Sal has lived a lifetime over the past three years. So much so, she doesn’t know whether she still feels like a teenager or a 51-year-old.

“I’m so confused! Haha,” Sal says. “It’s gone so fast the last few years and it feels pretty crazy that I’m already 21. I’m four years into my career already so maybe I should be older? I don’t know. All I do know is it’s a massive milestone and I can’t wait!”

Also on Sally's want list is a new design for her 2012 surfboard and it could be YOUR design that's on it! Check it out at www.redbull.com.au/sally.
