This morning’s kicker session over the sandbar was a battle between us and the tide… but in a battle sometimes it’s a good tactic to make your enemy think you’re loco.
JD and I launched a few, then we had the brainwave to tie two ropes together, lay them across the spit and get the jet ski to take off – from a stationary start – from the water on the other side. This worked incredibly poorly. I had first crack, was committed, got to the top… sloooowly… and basically did a face first pie man dive into about an inch of water.
I grazed my forehead, arm and ankle. Charitably, everyone though this was hilarious.

JD went out towing Parks with the Red Bull ski. They were carving and sliding the sand bank and got some sick super HD footage until JD decided to hit the island at the widest point – belting into it at absolute full speed – on the jet ski. He turned it off when he hit, so he wouldn’t suck in sand, cannoned off of sand moguls all the way over, and just struggled to the other side. Success!
Except for, you know, Parks… who he was towing. And the ski, which he knocked a massive hole into the guts of.
The afternoon session kicked off with a trip to some Aboriginal cave art, fishing and a heli session in front of some incredible, towering cliffs that were redder than a 1950s Commie, all kicked and bleeding in an American gutter.
The session was cut short by bad light, and also because a couple of crocs parked themselves in the line-up and freaked us out (although JD reckoned he could wrestle one). Parks rode the tunnel through the catamaran’s hull anyway. He says he’s been riding with gators since he was a kid, so not to worry. Not sure if there’s a tick box for that on the insurance forms.
I stayed up until 2am drinking wine and writing Japanese haiku poetry. Wait, sorry… I meant “talking rubbish”. I am almost as good at that as I am at wine.
