18-year-old Canadian rider Sebastien Toutant could be one to watch this winter as he secured the first 6-Star win of his career by taking home gold from the Oakley Shaun White Air & Style Beijing snowboard competition in China.
'I’m pumped... It’s the best moment of my life for sure!' Toutant
Toutant came back from a fall on his first run to beat the competition off with a cab 1260 double cork as China’s first world-class snowboard event, like Sebastien’s season, got off to a flying start.
Having walked away with the lion’s share of the US $75,000 prize purse, the teenager also pocketed the coveted Air & Style Ring of Glory and 1,000 TTR World Ranking points.
Toutant, who also tasted success at the recent Snowboard FIS World Cup, advanced to third in the TTR World Rankings. Another young gun, Seppe Smits (BEL), took the second podium spot in Beijing, while Elias Elhardt (GER) finished third.
The win follows Toutant’s first place at the World Cup Big Air event in Stockholm in November and there are further opportunities for the rider to rise up the rankings with pro level Big Air events still to come in Innsbruck, Munich and Livigno on this year’s tour.
The TTR tour moves to the Ski Club Leader resort of Davos for the next 6-Star stop, the O'Neill Evolution, from January 2-8 with competition in the Slopestyle and Halfpipe events.
The 9th Red Bull Nanshan Open, meanwhile, takes place between January 22-23. A 4-Star event, it is China’s largest slopestyle snowboard competition.
