We start the final race of the year where we started in Bahrain 18 races ago, with pole position secured by Sebastian. Mark Webber qualified fifth and now it's time for the final showdown.
This time we have a world championship under our belt and the possibility of another before tomorrow. The only – well three – unwanted elements are those two McLarens and Alonso ahead of Seb’s team-mate, Mark.
Sebastian drove a clinical final few laps in Q3 to give him the best possible start. It was his 10th pole (our 15th) of the season and done in style. Afterwards he was rightly pleased: “I’m happy – it was a great lap and I’m proud of it. It’s a long race tomorrow, hopefully we will have a good start tomorrow and a good first lap.”
For Mark it was a different tale. His fifth place makes things interesting for the neutral fans, but not so comfortable for him. He said: “It’s disappointing, but there is a long way to go tomorrow. I haven’t helped things today, but the Championship isn’t decided today. We’re still in the hunt.”
It’s going to be thrilling, it’s going to be a great sporting event and it’s going to all be done, dusted and decided this time tomorrow. But as ever with Formula One, no-one can confidently predict which way it will go. We just hope it’s a man in a blue racesuit, that’s all.
