Norway’s Andre Villa claimed a shock victory in the first round of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2010 in Mexico City thanks to his qualifying run after the main event had to be abandoned due to extreme weather conditions.
The first stop on the tour’s 10th anniversary year was hit by freak weather conditions including torrential rain and lightning, which meant the event had to be cancelled after the first round. That handed Villa victory due to his qualifying win as he became the first Norwegian to win an X-Fighters event.
The 27-year-old – who edged out Nate Adams and Robbie Maddison – was clearly delighted with the win. “I have trained hard my whole life and made sacrifices for this.”

American Adams finished behind the Norwegian in second, and he was full of praise for the victor. “Andre deserved to win here. When it comes to open-air sport, you have to live with the weather conditions.
“The heavy rain meant the landing hill was very slippery. I think the decision to abandon the competition was the right one.”
The next stop for the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2010 is Giza, Egypt on May 14.
