In his second blog from Wanaka in NZ, Aussie snowboarder, Scotty James, finds out the World Heli Challenge will most likely start this weekend.
I'm feeling pretty strong and ready to get up there
Just got the word, looks like we'll be in the heli's no earlier than Saturday. The weather here has been pretty shitty, cold and windy. The Queenstown airport has been closed, firstly because of bad weather and then because of ice on the runway. Some of the riders are having trouble getting here, so looks like another day on the ground.
I'm heading up to Treble Cone this morning to hopefully get some fresh powder and then I'll head to the gym and do some boxing. The SOS party at Snowpark last night was pretty mellow but the riding was fun. I got a chance to hit the jumps for the first time this season. Snowpark have done an awesome job this year, the jump line is sick they are big and looking good.
The halfpipe will be open on the 4th but the Heli Challenge is what I'm hanging out for. I'm feeling pretty strong and ready to get up there. Once all the riders are here it will just be the wait for good weather. Seeing as we're grounded on Friday, I'm thinking I'll head up to the Treble Cone Bank Slalom and give it a shot. I haven't ridden in one for a couple of years so it should be interesting, I'll let you know how I go!
