2010 was the year that a future surfing great shot to fame.
The journey
Born and raised on the south shore of Oahu, Carissa was surfing with her dad, Chris, before she had even started kindergarten. Fast forward to 2010 and this water baby is on her way to becoming a fully-fledged star and a surfer to be feared. Still only 18, Carissa showed her potential by winning an unprecedented 11 NSSA National Titles and, in May 2010, her first ASP Women's World Tour title, the TSB Bank Women's Surf Festival in Taranaki, New Zealand. She then graduated from high school, became a US Open Champion, clinching the biggest prize purse in women's surfing history in the process, and topped her year off by securing the Rip Curl Pro in Peniche, Portugal. Phew!
The big event
Taranaki was when Moore really announced her arrival on the world stage. The first ASP event win of her rookie season came in the spring of 2010. Standing atop the podium for the TSB Bank Women’s Surf Festival after defeating Sally Fitzgibbons in the final, Carissa announced that she was donating her entire winnings of $15,000 to the area’s Waitara Bar Boardriders Club, a volunteer organisation that provides a safe destination – and ocean education – for local children.
Best quote of the year
"I guess my only wish is that we had more waves in the final so Sally (Fitzgibbons) and I really could have surfed it out."
Said Carissa the morning after accepting a cheque for $50,000 following her victory in the US Open final!

What’s next in 2011?
Moore of the same please! We suspect that imploring headline writers will have opportunity aplenty to pun. Third in her rookie season on the ASP World Tour in 2010, Moore is a very real contender to be the 2011 ASP Women's World Champion.
