Round One of the Quiksilver Pro France – the eighth of 11 stops on the 2011 ASP World Tour – is underway in La Graviere with standout performances from Mick Fanning and Julian Wilson.
For the first time this season, the complete ASP Top 34, lined up for the opening round of an event and two-time former world champion Fanning (pictured below), scored 18.20 from a possible 20 in his heat against Tiago Pires (pictured above) and Brett Simpson.

Fanning's score included a single wave score of 9.37 out of ten on a day of relatively low scores, but fellow Aussie, Julian Wilson (pictured below) also impressed in his heat against Bede Durbridge and Dusty Payne by scoring 15.43 to progress to Round Three.

South Africa's Jordy Smith (below) made his comeback from injury by progressing to Round Three in a low scoring heat against Marc Lacomare and Kieren Perrow.

Michel Bourez (below) was forced to wait until the next call for his heat against Miguel Pupo and Alejo Muniz to take place, while elsewhere there were wins for big names Kelly Slater, Taj Burrow, and Owen Wright.
