Space Invadas (Invada Records) Sydney
Space Invadas is a collaboration between producer/DJ Katalyst and singer/producer Steve Spacek. Space Invada's live format is bass, drums, guitar, samplers and electronics with Steve on vocals, harkening back to legendary soul outfits of old with a modern twist.
Steve Spacek (aka Steve White) originates from London, and is now based in Sydney. Steve earned his stripes in his first group Spacek, featuring smooth electronics, broken rhythms and of course his own signature neo-soul vocals that weave their way throughout the productions with heartfelt elocution. Steve has worked with J Dilla in person on the seminal track "Dollar", as well as Mos Def, Slum Village and Common, while being hailed by critics as Curtis Mayfield or Marvin Gaye reincarnated.
Katalyst (aka Ashley Anderson) is a Sydney based producer known for transforming rare funk and soul into his own dance-floor hip-hop based compositions. His Aria nominated debut album Manipulating Agent is a staple of any instrumental hip-hop collection, which boasts dense mood, soul and funk throughout.
Pursuit Grooves (Tectonic / NYC, USA)
Vanese Smith aka Pursuit Grooves is an electronic music producer, vocalist and live performance artist living in Brooklyn, New York and was a participant in the 2008 Redbull Music Academy in Barcelona, Spain.
Her latest album ‘Foxtrot Mannerisms' was released on the reputable Bristol Bass label, Tectonic.
DJ Magazine named "Fox Trot Mannerisms" by Pursuit Grooves as one of the Recommended Albums for May 2010 and BBC Radio's Gilles Peterson named her as one of the Top 10 Breakout Artists of 2010, including her track "Pressure" on his Brownswood Bubblers:Six compilation.
Receiving fanfare from numerous DJs and magazines, Pursuit Grooves delivers a seamless mix of soulful electronic bass that is a breath of fresh air to the eclectic dance/beats music scene. Live show highlights include a four city Japan tour and breakout performances at Fabric in London, Elevate Festival in Austria and Sonar Festival in Barcelona. Her live show is a mix of energetic beats, cinematic interludes and sultry vocals that no one else on the scene delivers.
Pursuit Grooves brings her bass heavy future-funk to life using samplers, drum machines, keyboards and of course the microphone.
