Building the Pipe
An active youngster, Anthony Napolitan bounced between sports looking for the right fit. One of his 8th-grade football teammates - the one who rode his BMX bike to practice - invited him to a makeshift riding compound one weekend, and Anthony caught on quick. When the school year ended, he dove into riding BMX full-bore, leaving the football team in dust.
Slow going with tonnes of dirt that has to be shifted, but the pipe starts to take shape.
The pipe shape beginning to emerge after a couple months of digging.
February 2008: A month into building and the walls and lips are more defined, the course shape begins to emerge.
We now have a pipe ready to be shaped and made rideable...time for the team to get in and start working ride lines and take the ideas from paper mould the pipe.
First cuts are made into the pipe.
Ride lines zig zag their way down the pipe and wall rides getting installed. Options left and right, starting to see the potential of what’s going to happen here when the riders arrive.
Pipe ready and looking pristine, Day 1 of the first ever Red Bull Dirt Pipe.
