... MILTON MARTÍNEZ: First the victory at the “O Marisquiño”, then the silver medal at the Latin X Games: Skateboard talent Milton Martínez celebrated his international breakthrough in 2007. Find out more about the 16 year-old Argentinean:
Three things your friends would define as something “typically Milton” are …
My smile, good disposition and calmness.
That a 16 year-old boy won a silver medal at the Latin X Games in Mexico was something quite unusual. What was your experience of that day?
It was my first X Games and I was among the best. Everyone was very kind to me, plus I could visit the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon. So I’m very happy.
Until you won “O Marisquiño 2007” in Vigo, Spain, you were a complete stranger at an international level. Tell us how you started skateboarding.
I started the sport thanks to my parents, who also skate and I followed their trails, because I really like it. At the “O Marisquiño” competition, there were the best skaters from Europe and Brazil. It was really difficult, the level was high, but I did what I do when I’m on a board: have fun and enjoy.
What are your special strengths at skateboarding, and where do you feel you still need to learn more?
The pressure is one of the tricks that I find easier to perform. I still have many things to learn, but I believe I’ll continue learning new stuff from skating and from life.
What would you like to have achieved, experienced and learned in three years from now?
I don’t think about that now. I live for today.
Milton Martínez
