At 26TRIX in Leogang, Austria, the world’s best dirt bikers are meeting up in a trial of strength against physics and adversaries. Andreu Lacondeguy, second last year, thinks he’ll triumph over both.
What do FMX-god Travis Pastrana, cliff diver Orlando Duque and dirt biker Andreu Lacondeguy have in common? They’ve all mastered the double backflip. As the second dirt rider ever to complete one successfully, Lacondeguy performed his last year at 26TRIX in Leogang. First prize at the contest, however, was snapped up by a rival: Jamie Goldman. And from June 5 to 8 the 19-year-old Spaniard wants to get revenge at this year’s 26TRIX – with an even crazier performance.
Out of Bounds
Ten jumps are awaiting riders at the demanding course at the foot of the Leogang bike park. Huge doubles, gaps and hips will ensure crisp tricks and stretched airtime – and especially the elation of spectators. As part of the Out of Bounds Weekend, the latter will also get the chance to run riot themselves. At the Kona Top2Bottom Terminator, for example, a dual freeride slalom for everyone; or at the Bunnie Hop Contest held in conjunction with the Barbecue Party on Friday, where amateurs can pit themselves against the pros.
Victorious in the Qashqai Challenge Series
Although he ‘only’ came second last year, Andreu Lacondeguy is the top favourite in the contest. Recently his increasing form got him some noteworthy results. Current highlight: less than a month ago Lacondeguy won the Madrid event of the Nissan Qashqai Challenge Series as the local hero. The program he performed in Santiago Bernabeu Stadium included a superman backflip into a 360 on the step up, a turn-down on the step down, and a hugely extended superman, followed by a clean 360 tailwhip to pedals.Andreu Lacondeguy
