Benny (RSA)

Alfred Burgess aka BENNY was the winner of the RED BULL BC ONE Qualifier in South Africa. Coming from the Capeflats in Capetown, this South African of mixed origin was born in 1987. He has danced for the South African Team at the Battle of the Year several times and, with his crew Ubuntu, placed 6th at the International Battle of the Year in 2004.

A past participant of the RED BULL BC ONE in Berlin, Germany, in 2005, BENNY is known as one of the foremost B-Boys in the business. Competing with the Hand Break Turn Crew, BENNY lead them to victory at the B-Boy World Cup in France in 2006.

BENNY started his B-Boy career in 2000, after seeing breaking for the first time at the Battle of the Year in South Africa. He was already into dancing and gymnastics and so B-Boying was right up his alley. He was inspired by Isaac from Style Skills and fellow Hip Hopper Emile from Black Noise. BENNY’s style is uniquely South African. The “Bridge 90” can be called his signature move. He believes that the best battle strategy is to "Just Be Yourself." Known for his intricate footwork combined with power moves and sprinkled with originality, he is sure to get the crowds screaming.

Hong 10 (KOR)

HONG 10 took out RED BULL BC ONE 2006 in Brazil. He is constantly at the top of his game and is known as one of the most creative and strength driven B-Boys in the world. He is a former member of the Korean crew Expressions, currently a member of Drifterz Crew and a member of the Korean all-star crew Project Soul with members from Rivers Crew. Recognized for his extremely complex, clean, and intricately creative style, he won 2nd place in 2005’s RED BULL BC ONE and 1st place in 2006. His signature moves are Bridge ’90s, Chair Flares, Chair Threads, Drop Chair Freezes, and the HONG 10 Freeze.

The first time Kim saw breaking was on a video he borrowed from a friend. It was the “US Freestyle Session 3” and he was blown away by what he saw. He started breaking with his friends and at first, they were just just hanging out and having fun. He ’s still surprised by what happened and how he got where he is now.

Kim’s name in Korean is HONG Yul, and Yul translated into Korean phonetically means ten. So his name is HONG 10. Kim loves snowboarding and wakeboarding, is an avid photographer and also reads a lot. He gets a lot of support from his family. Even though they are constantly worried about his health and his future they stand behind him and always cheer for him in competitions. Kim’s crew is like family to him as well. They are his strength, his peers, his critics and his number one support.

Lilou (FRA)

LILOU, one of the outstanding dancers in the world, was the winner of the RED BULL BC ONE 2005 in Berlin.

He has a unique dance style and an engaging stage presence, being vicious, but humorous as well. The audience loves him! He perfectly combines the new style of “flexible moves” with classic footwork and power moves. His signature move is a variation of the air-chair.

LILOU has been dancing since he was thirteen years old. He was fascinated when he first saw breakers on TV doing power moves and spinning on their heads. He thought that was absolutely crazy and he wanted to do it too. His older brother taught him the moonwalk and later LILOU started to dance with an old-skool B-Boy who lived in his hood. He got his name when he was very young. Instead of his given name Ali, his family used to call him Alilou which then became shortened to LILOU.

LILOU has had a black belt in Kung Fu since he was sixteen years old. The Kung Fu mentality helped with his breaking. “Just like in Kung Fu, you have to anticipate the move your opponent is going to come out with and you’d better have an answer to that. You need to learn new moves and combinations and develop your style all the time if you want to be a winner.”

Roxrite (USA)

Omar O. Delgado Macias aka ROXRITE, was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, and started dancing at the age of twelve. He is definitely the “hardest hitter” of the last years. He is a member of the new generation of the legendary US American crew “Renegades” from San Francisco. For the past few years, ROXRITE has won many important battles and has a lifetime record of about 50 first places, many of which were in 1 on 1 competitions.

With his vast variety of moves, repetition will never be an issue with this battle hardened West Coast B-Boy. ROXRITE has an almost unnatural ability to stick freeze combinations and he puts a unique twist on all his moves.

He got his B-Boy name ROXRITE through his friend Ground Level in 1996, when he was a member of his first crew SUB 4. His friend thought that he always danced clean and as well as he could which meant he “rocked right.”

ROXRITE is a strategic battle B-Boy. He takes everything into consideration from footwork to powermoves to freezes. He has different strategies, depending on the situation—defensive or offensive. When he goes first, he immediately attacks in a very strong way so it’s hard for the opponent to respond. His main strategy is simply to do more than the other B-Boy does, in whatever field. The way you dress is important, too. “You’ve got to respect yourself as an artist and treat yourself that way!”

Pelézinho

Alex José Gomes Eduardo aka PELÉZINHO has a style that is acrobatic, powerful and very creative with deep roots in Brazilian culture. Including elements of capoeira and samba, he has a big variety of moves and tries to stay unpredictable. He surprises the audience with great combinations and suicidal moves. His battle strategy is flexible.

PELÉZINHO saw breaking in 1995 for the first time. He was walking the streets of his hometown, São José do Rio Preto, with his father when he saw B-Boys dancing on cardboard on a street corner. He was 13 years old and was mesmerized by what looked like magic to him. The following year he started to dance himself.

PELÉZINHO sees his future in breaking and wants to go on working hard to establish a name in the international scene. He is a professional dancer, performing in videos, commercials, shows, and theatre performances and wants to dance for the rest of his life.

BEN-J (SEN)

Mbegne Kassé aka b-boy BEN-J started breaking in 2002, after watching videos from the US and France. He said when he first saw this beautiful dance, he was deeply touched inside. From that point on, his life changed and he knew he would become a dancer.

His dance is a mixture of different styles. He is super fast, has unique toprocks, and looks very fresh and sassy. Some people call him “B-Boy Melaakh” meaning “B-Boy Lightning” because of his speed.

BEN-J not only breaks; he’s a versatile dancer with experience in jazz, classic, house, hype, locking, popping, new style, sabar and yella (traditional Senegalese dances), and even classic ballet! BEN-J is definitely influenced by his African roots.

BEN-J feels the RED BULL BC ONE opens doors for B-Boys and connects people from different countries. He feels that taking part in the RED BULL BC ONE will lead to new opportunities and help him succeed. He wants to show the Hip Hop world that Africa is on its way and is a force to reckon with.
