Red Bull Paper Wings - what is it?
Red Bull in conjunction with 30 Universities around Australia have challenged students to fold the ultimate paper plane using only a single sheet of A4 paper. The Red Bull Paper Wings was held on campus for all students to participate throughout September 2008.
Each student was eligible to enter one of three divisions to test their paper plane flying skills against other pilots. The top 10 winners nationally in each of the 3 divisions will represent their Uni at the Australian national finals on Friday October 17 where they will showcase their paper plane flying skills against other university winners. The overall winner in each division will be flown to Austria in April ’09 to represent Australia in the World Finals against 65 other countries!
The divisions are as follows:
LONGEST DISTANCE
Winner of this division will be the paper plane that flies the longest distance between the lift-off and the landing point within the official Air Space. The distance will be counted in metres.
Official World Record holder in this discipline is Toni Fletch (US, 1985) with 58.82 m / 193 feet.
LONGEST AIRTIME
Winner of this division will be the paper plane that manages to stay in the air the longest. Results will be counted in tenth of seconds.
Official World Record holder in this discipline is Ken Blackburn (US, 1998) with 27.6 sec.
AEROBATIC FLIGHT
A jury will identify the most creative flight performance of a paper plane. The overall impression will be judged. There are no single categories for special manoeuvres (e.g. steady circles, steady loops).
How do I register?
Students will be required to register on the day of the event at their campus.
