As with any competition, here are the terms and conditions for entering.

COMPETITION RULES AND PRIZES

COMPETITION RULES AND PRIZES

1. All contests must be held indoor without any wind.

2. The Pilots shall each construct a paper plane (“Paper Plane”) to fly in the Competition.

3. Red Bull and its designated representatives shall be the sole and final arbiter of whether the Paper Plane entered into the Competition by the Pilot complies with the Competition Rules, in particular rule 5, and shall at all times retain the right to refuse or withdraw the entry of any Pilot whose Paper Plane or entry does not comply with these, or any other, requirements.

4. The Paper Plane must be thrown, and entirely propelled, by hand. No external, unorthodox or artificial means of propulsion will be permitted.

5. The Competition shall test the skills of the Pilot and their Plane in one of three different divisions (“Divisions”), being:

i. LONGEST DISTANCE: Any Paper Plane entered into this division of the Competition by the Pilot shall be constructed entirely from a single sheet of standard A4 paper (210mm × 297mm) provided by Red Bull at the site. Without limiting this clause, no use of scissors, glue, paperclips or staples will be permitted. The aircraft must be launched by one Pilot throwing the aircraft unaided from behind a straight line marked on the ground (“Launch Line”). Stepping over the Launch Line leads to an invalid attempt. The Pilot may only move over the Launch Line, after the Paper Plane hits the ground or any object. Two trials per Pilot are allowed. Different planes can be used, the better attempt counts. The distance will be measured with a standardised tape measure or laser/video facility from the base point on the Launch Line to the first point the Paper Plane hits the ground or any object. The distance will be counted in centimetres.

ii. LONGEST AIRTIME: Any Paper Plane entered into this division of the Competition by the Pilot shall be constructed entirely from a single sheet of standard A4 paper (210mm × 297mm) provided by Red Bull at the site. Without limiting this clause, no use of scissors, glue, paperclips or staples will be permitted. Paper Planes must be built at the site with the provided paper. The aircraft must be launched by one Pilot throwing the aircraft unaided, in a reasonably static position with both feet firmly on the ground, from behind the Launch Line. A run-up or fast walk as part of the launch is not permitted, nor is the use of ramps or similar devices. Two trials per Pilot are allowed. Different planes can be used, the better attempt counts. The airtime will be calculated from the time the Paper Plane leaves the Pilot’s hand to the time it hits the ground or any object. Airtime will be counted in tenth of seconds.

iii. AEROBATIC FLIGHT: The body of the Paper Plane entered into this division of the Competition by the Pilot shall be constructed from paper, but there are no restrictions with regards to paper quality, size, construction technique and support material. Planes are not allowed to be remote controlled or use stored energy (battery etc). Ready-made planes can be brought along to this division of the Competition. There are no limitations in relation to the Pilot’s body style while throwing. Each Pilot has a time period of one minute to perform in front of the Judging Panel. This minute includes time allowed for creative performance as well as the flight itself. Each Judge can award a point score of 1 to a maximum of 10. The Judging Panel will consist of three Judges, where each Judge will be judging a different criterion – construction of the Paper Plane, flight performance and creativity. The addition of the three scores will form the total point score awarded to the Pilot (out of a maximum point score of 30).

6. Each Pilot may enter only one Division in the Competition unless otherwise agreed by Red Bull.

7. All Pilots shall conduct themselves in a fair and sporting manner; no cheating will be tolerated.

8. Judges and Judging Panels for each event shall be composed of individuals entirely of Red Bull’s choosing and at their sole discretion.

9. All Discipline Rules:

i. If a Paper Plane hits a structure it is automatically a foul throw and nothing is recorded;

ii. If a Paper Plane flies outside the flight zone it is automatically a foul throw and nothing is recorded;

iii. Pilots must wait until instructed before entering the flight zone;

iv. If any spectator or Pilot interferes with a Pilot or Paper Plane, that Pilot shall be entitled to another throw.
